The hard player: Clint Dempsey
Born on 9 March 1983 in Nacogdoches, Texas, Clint Dempsey was an American striker whose professional career ran from 2004 to 2018. He started out at New England Revolution (84 matches, 26 goals) before making his mark in the Premier League with Fulham, where he scored 60 goals in 225 matches, and then Tottenham Hotspur (12 goals in 43 matches).
Back on home soil, he became a cornerstone of the Seattle Sounders, netting 57 goals in 136 matches. On the international stage, he finished his career as the all-time leading scorer for the United States national team, level with Landon Donovan.

Born on 22 April 1977 in Maasbracht, Netherlands, Mark van Bommel was a defensive midfielder who stamped his authority on the biggest clubs in Europe. He played for PSV Eindhoven (239 matches, 57 goals), FC Barcelona (38 matches, 4 goals), Bayern Munich (187 matches, 16 goals) and AC Milan (50 matches, 0 goals), before ending his playing career at Fortuna Sittard.
Capped 79 times for the Netherlands with 10 international goals, he served as Bayern Munich captain from 2008 to 2011 and also wore the armband for the Dutch national team from August 2010 to June 2012. After hanging up his boots, he moved into management and was appointed Belgium national team coach on 24 July 2026.

Trained at Independiente in Argentina, Sergio Agüero made his professional debut in 2003 at just 15 years and 35 days old, becoming the youngest player ever to appear in the Primera División. After five seasons at Atlético de Madrid – where he scored 101 goals in 234 matches and won the 2010 Europa League – he joined Manchester City in 2011 to write the greatest chapter of his career.

He won five Premier League titles, six League Cups, one FA Cup and three Community Shields, earning a place in the English top-flight team of the year twice. Internationally, he became Argentina’s third all-time top scorer with 42 goals, ahead of Diego Maradona, and won the Copa América 2021. In December 2021, aged 33, a cardiac arrhythmia forced him to announce his retirement from football.
